  Today we analyzed a poem about a child having to do adult work resulting in him getting injured and eventually losing his life. This poem outlines the idea of growing up too fast, and it also outlines the idea that people should be responsible in what they do.

 Today we further learned how to identify themes. We also learned that the central idea is not the same as theme or the topic. The central idea is what happens before the resolution of a story, what lead Up the that to happen. Another thing we learned is how to identify the topic. The topic can be identified by figuring out what the story is going to be about.

 Today we had to figure out themes of two short films. Here’s an example of how we found some themes. We watched a film called the Elevator which was about a man getting into an elevator, and watching as people got on. Later on it started to exceed the weight limit and he got off and stepped into another elevator. This elevator had slimmer people so he assumed they were healthy but they all had the flu in the end. He judged the first people from their weight, and wasn’t careful of his surroundings. 

 Today we learned about what a myth should require, and how to plan to create one.We learned how to come up with characters using our own brain. There are 5 steps to creating a story. 1. Introduction 2. Rising action 3. Climax 4. Falling action 5. Resolution. Those five things are all the steps we need in our story. When it’s time to present we have the option to create a video or present in person to the class.

 Today we learned about the difference between religion and a myth. Religion is something you believe is true with faith, while a myth is something that is false. We read a myth called “Navajo Creation” which had similarities to the bible. Things we looked for in this myth was the creation of earth, mankind, plants and animals, bible, and mythology. An origin myth may have similarities to mythology. Origin myths also contain social values, customs, or cultural details.

 

 Today we went over the poem “I too” and analyzed it. We got the understanding of discrimination, and how to understand the difference between discrimination and requirements. Today I also did a test about all of the poems we read this week and got an 88% so I’m happy about that.

 

 Today I learned how to understand the themes and meanings of poems. In a poem we read today the theme was about life being difficult but even know it is, keep pushing. 

 

 Today I learned about a famous poet James Langston Hughes. He wrote a poem called “The Negro Speaks of Rivers”. We broke down the poem and figured out that Langston was referring to all black race, not just African Americans, the color of black skin. The black race has been existing since the beginning of time.

 

 Today we learned some brainstorming techniques. We learned about clustering, listing, and free writing. Here is the cluster that I made in class

 My name is Shanya Mitchell and I am 16 years old. I was born  in Panama City Florida. For my hobbies, I like to watch videos on YouTube, play on my ps4, or go outside just to walk. People describe me as shy, nice, or quiet. Something unique about me is that I used to cheer when I was younger, and run track. My goals for this year are to pass all my classes, and to get on the gymnastics team. My favorite color is blue, and I don’t have a favorite food I like all food, even though there are some I don’t like. My favorite place to be is home and my favorite musician is SZA.
